What each of the 32 color identities actually does at the table. Each header shows the most-played commander in that identity right now. Click through for the full read and its card pool.
Full Scryfall search. Type a card name for suggestions, or use query syntax. Click any result for the card, its abilities, printings, price history, and Commander usage.
Search builder — no syntax needed
The color pips and quick filters above stack onto whatever you build here.
Search syntax — click any example to run it
Scryfall query syntax. Terms combine with spaces (AND), or, and - to negate.
Every entry below is a live search. Click one to pull up every card with that activation, trigger, or effect. This is the same index that powers the ability chips on each card.
Pick a commander and build around it. Suggestions come live from EDHREC — grouped by category, with synergy and inclusion rates — and one click adds a card to your deck. Cards you already own show in green. The deck saves in this browser.
What the Commander community is playing and building right now, and every way to bring their decks into yours.

Moxfield blocks third-party tools, so for Moxfield (or
MTGGoldfish, TappedOut, Arena…) open the deck, hit Export, and paste the list below — any
1 Card Name text works. The commander is detected automatically, and the finished
deck opens in the Deckbuilder tab.

Headlines
Game-night tools: a life and commander-damage tracker, a booster simulator, and a deck comparer.
Table companion
Commander life for four players — 21 commander damage from a single commander is lethal. The game state survives reloads; names are editable.
Booster simulator
Crack a virtual 14-card pack: ten commons, three uncommons, and a rare — 1-in-8 upgrades to a mythic. Values are today's Scryfall USD.
Deck compare
Compare your current Deckbuilder deck against any other list — paste text, or fetch an Archidekt URL.
Charts, value & analysis
This is not the card filter — the Shelf pills at the top of the tab decide which cards you see. This one decides what the charts, the value total, the price tracking and the deckbuilder’s “you own this” marks count. Shift-click to add another.
Scans, the card sheet’s + Collection button and quick-add all file into this one.
Price tracking
Cards carrying what you paid and a target price. Alerts fire when one hits your target or spikes. Set them from a card's row.
Add cards — paste, upload or quick-add
Paste cards as JSON or plain text and they resolve against Scryfall, price themselves and land on the shelf named in New cards go to. A CSV export from Moxfield, ManaBox or Deckbox imports directly. Scanning a stack with the camera is usually faster — that is the Scan tab.
JSON format — copy this spec into an LLM to have it build your list
The simplest accepted form is an object with a cards array. Only name is required.
{
"name": "My Collection",
"cards": [
{ "name": "Sol Ring", "qty": 4 },
{ "name": "Cyclonic Rift", "qty": 1, "set": "rtr", "foil": true },
{ "name": "Rhystic Study" }
]
}
Fields: name (required, exact or close card name) ·
qty (optional, defaults to 1) ·
set (optional 3-5 letter set code, pins the printing for pricing) ·
foil (optional boolean) ·
paid (optional number — what you paid each, starts price tracking) ·
target (optional number — alert when the card drops to this).
CSV also works: a Moxfield / ManaBox / Deckbox export with a header row
containing Name and a quantity column imports directly.
Also accepted: a bare array [{"name":"Sol Ring","qty":2}],
an array of plain names ["Sol Ring","Rhystic Study"], or plain text with one card per
line as 2x Sol Ring / 2 Sol Ring / Sol Ring.
Hold a card up to the phone camera, or photograph a stack one shot at a time, and it reads the card, matches it against every Magic card ever printed, and drops it in the intake tray below — name, type, printing and price. Nothing reaches a shelf until you commit the tray, so a misread is caught in review rather than found weeks later in the collection.
Idle.
Search by hand
When the light is bad or the frame is unusual, type the name.
Intake tray
Scans wait here for a once-over before they touch the shelf. Each row says which printing it is and prices that printing — tap ▾ to pick the right one by its art. Photos that did not read are here too, with their picture and a box to type the name. Nothing reaches a shelf until you commit.
The tray is empty — scans land here first.
Committing the tray is the only way cards reach a collection — nothing here is on a shelf until you press it.
Committed
One block per press of Commit. A batch that never reached a shelf — the phone was offline, or the shelf refused the write — says so and can be put on the shelf named above in one press.
Nothing scanned yet.
The Deck Helper talks about the deck you are building. It answers from the collections you have switched on — so its suggestions are cards you can actually reach for — and it knows your commander and everything already in the list. For rules questions, ask the Rules Oracle in the Library group instead.
The Rules Oracle answers Magic rules questions from the actual Comprehensive Rules, card Oracle text and official rulings — it cites the rule numbers it used, and it will say so rather than guess when the context does not settle it.
Your deck library, stored on the Pi rather than in this browser — so a deck built on the PC opens on the phone, and a hostname change cannot strand it. Each deck keeps its own versions: save a variant before you tinker, then flip between them to compare.
Commander Playbook speaks MCP — the Model Context Protocol — so a chatbot can search cards, read these decks, work out a bracket and find infinite combos by asking this Pi directly. Point Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client at the endpoint below and it gains the tools on this page.

Things to try asking
- “What bracket is my Gandalf deck, and why?”
- “Find every two-card infinite combo in my Gandalf deck.”
- “Which red creatures under 3 mana with haste should I look at?”
- “What are the top commanders on EDHREC this week?”
- “Show me a real Y'shtola decklist people have built.”
- “Which ramp do I already own?” (needs your token)
- “Build me a Krenko list from cards I own and save it.” (needs your token)
What it can and cannot reach
The MCP server runs inside Commander Playbook's own process. It holds references to this app's card cache, deck store and collections and to nothing else — the rest of the Pi is not merely forbidden to it, it is not reachable from where it runs.
- This app's cards, decks and (with your token) your own shelves
- Scryfall, EDHREC and Commander Spellbook, on your behalf
- The rules oracle, when that machine is awake
- The Pi hub, its dashboard, and every other app on it
- The sports databases, n8n, the desktop, the file system beyond this app
- Anyone else's decks — writes are refused unless you own the deck
- Any collection at all without a valid profile token
Deal a seven, then play the first turns against a clock: the table tracks phases, mana, land drops, summoning sickness and commander tax, resolves what a card says it does, and a coach on the side says what the rest of the pod is usually doing on that turn and whether this deck is keeping up.
Table settings
The bracket only changes what the coach expects of the table and of you. Brackets are Wizards' 2025 Commander Brackets; a deck with Game Changers in it is at least bracket 3, and the coach counts them for you.
Pick a deck
Your open Deckbuilder deck, plus every deck in the library on the Pi. Dealing does not touch the open deck.
Recent goldfish runs
Every game you play at the table is remembered here (this browser only): lands by turn four, the turn the commander landed, and damage by turn six, so a run of bad draws shows up as a pattern rather than a feeling.
Cards you have pinned — a running want-list or deck workshop. Sort and group like a deckbuilder, then copy the list straight into Moxfield or Archidekt. Stored in this browser only.
